Here is how the Mac companion works.

  2. Connect through iCloud.

Use the same iCloud account on your iPhone and Mac. In your iPhone profile's Domains settings, add websites and turn on Sync Websites to Mac.

  3. Start on your iPhone.

The Mac companion receives your profile's website blocklist. It follows session starts, breaks, pauses, and stops as iCloud updates arrive.

Step-by-step setup help

Need help approving TezBlock?

Your Mac asks for permission before TezBlock can block websites. You only need to complete this setup once.

Start with the shortcut in the app.

Open TezBlock for Mac from Applications and click Complete Setup. When it asks you to approve the extension, click Open System Settings. This opens the settings section; you still need to turn on TezBlock yourself.

Already closed the setup window? Click the TezBlock logo in the menu bar at the top of your Mac’s screen, then choose Extension Settings….

Turn on the network extension

On macOS 15 or later, follow these steps. If the app already opened settings, start at step 2.

  1. Click the Apple menu () in the top-left corner. Open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions.
  2. Scroll down to Extensions. If you see a By Category option, select it.
  3. Find Network Extensions and click the information button (ⓘ) next to it.
  4. Turn on the entry for TezBlock or TezBlock Website Filter. Confirm any approval prompt from macOS, then click Done if shown.
  5. Return to TezBlock. When macOS asks to allow network content filtering, click Allow.
  6. Open TezBlock’s menu bar panel. When you see Website blocking is ready, the Mac setup is complete. If a restart is requested, restart your Mac and open TezBlock again.
Using macOS 14?

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security. Look for the message about TezBlock’s system extension and click Allow. Follow the macOS prompts, return to TezBlock, and allow network content filtering when asked.

Finish on your iPhone.

Use the same iCloud account on both devices. Open TezBlock on your iPhone, edit a profile, and open its Domains settings. Add the websites you want to block, turn on Sync Websites to Mac, and save the profile. Start that profile on your iPhone.

Keep TezBlock running on your Mac. After iCloud syncs, its menu bar panel will show your active profile and blocked websites. Updates can take a little time.

Seeing “must be in /Applications”?

TezBlock was opened before it was installed. This is a Mac installation step, not a problem with your iPhone or iCloud account.

  1. Quit TezBlock completely. If its logo is in the menu bar, click it and choose Quit TezBlock.
  2. Open the downloaded .dmg and drag TezBlock for Mac onto Applications. If you downloaded the older ZIP, move the unzipped app from Downloads into Applications in Finder.
  3. In Finder, open Applications and launch TezBlock for Mac from there. Continue setup and approve website blocking when prompted.

You do not need to start an iPhone session to complete this installation step. If setup still fails after these steps, choose Export Diagnostics… in TezBlock and contact support.

TezBlock is missing, or approval is still stuck

Make sure you opened the app from Applications and clicked Complete Setup first. Return to TezBlock after enabling the extension. If it shows an error, use Try Again.

On a work or school Mac, your organization may control these settings. If the switch is disabled or keeps turning off, ask your administrator to allow TezBlock’s network extension.

A little companion for your Mac.

It lives in your menu bar. No pairing code or separate TezBlock login needed for sync.

Mac sync supports the website domains you enter in a blocklist. It does not block Mac apps or mirror website allowlists, Screen Time categories, or Apple's adult-content filter.

iCloud updates can take a little time, especially when a device is offline. Keep the companion running to receive session changes. If setup needs attention, its menu bar panel will tell you.
