Where should I put my NFC tag?

Find an NFC tag spot that fits your routine, from a reminder beside your notebook to a deliberate pause across the room. Try the placement before sticking it down.

Start with a spot you can reach comfortably, a little away from where you usually scroll. A shelf beside your desk or a table near your bedroom door is a reasonable first experiment.

The right spot depends on what you need help with: remembering to start a session, or making the decision to stop it more deliberate. Those can point to different places.

If you forget to start: put it where work begins

Try the edge of your desk, beside your notebook, or near the place you leave your bag. Choose something you already notice when you sit down.

This gives the tag a simple role: “I'm here, so I'll start.”

The tradeoff is that a tag within reach is also easy to scan when you want to stop. That may suit you perfectly. If your main problem is remembering to begin, start there before adding more effort.

If you stop without thinking: give the tag some distance

Try a shelf across the room, a table in the hallway, or an accessible spot near the kitchen entrance.

Now ending a session involves a separate action: leave the desk, reach the tag, and decide whether you want to stop. Treat this as an experiment with your routine, not a promise that a walk will remove the urge to scroll.

You do not need to choose the most inconvenient place in the house. If getting to the tag feels like a chore every time, move it closer.

If you scroll in bed: try the route into the bedroom

A spot just inside your bedroom door can make the tag part of arriving for the night. A shelf outside the room is another option if you can comfortably reach it whenever you need it.

Keep it somewhere available to you. A tag behind a door that someone else might lock, or in a room you cannot always enter, adds a problem you do not need.

You can also keep the tag closer while trying the routine, then move it once you understand what works for you.

Make the placement fit your space and body

Distance does not have to mean walking to another room. If standing, reaching, or moving around is difficult, choose a comfortable position that still asks for an intentional action. An accessible shelf or a clearly marked spot beside your chair may be enough for your purpose.

In a shared home or office, use a location you are allowed to change and where the tag is unlikely to be moved. Explain what it is before attaching it to shared furniture.

Try one small session before sticking it down

Leave the adhesive backing on while you try a location.

  1. Choose one distracting app for a trial. Select it individually so you can check exactly what changes.
  2. Read your profile's start and stop requirements. In TezBlock, the stop method depends on the blocking strategy and settings; check those before starting.
  3. With the required tag beside you, start a session, check the selected app, and practice ending the session.
  4. Move the tag to your proposed spot. Try another brief session and confirm that you can scan it there and end the session as expected.

This is also the time to check that apps you need remain available. If scanning is unreliable, use the NFC troubleshooting guide before committing to that location.

After a few sessions, ask yourself: did I remember to start, could I reach the tag comfortably, and did its location help me make a deliberate choice?

Change the placement based on those answers. The tag should fit the routine you want to keep.
